Look forward to more posts in the future. Your absentee web master retired from her city job in December and plans to post more frequently now that I am a full-time farmer again.
Well, it has been a long, hard winter for most everyone and we are glad it will soon be over. We still have snow on the ground and the temperatures have only occasionally topped 50 degrees, but that's better than the sub-zero temperatures we have come to expect.
The herd is doing well and we will start calving toward the end of April. Look forward to some photos.
We will send three bull calves to the New York All Forage Bull Test in January. If they make the grade, they will be for sale in the spring. See the "Cattle for Sale" page for further information.
The boys (and everyone else) are growing. Eclipse and Dandy's Boy weighed in at 400 and 449 pounds on August 28. Both are just over four months old. (See their pictures in the Cattle for Sale section. More pictures coming soon!!
Introducing three new arrivals - Front right is a Rotokawa 93 calf out of Adventureland Amazon, a granddaughter of our foundation cow, Adventureland Abigail (see the "Our Herd" section).
The other two calves are sired by our herd sire Adventure Seneca Chief and out of two young Page Road Farm Pete cows, Domino and Emily. Seneca Chief is a 2 year old Rotokawa 982 out of Adventureland 688 Casey, a ten year old Rotokawa 688 daughter.
13 babies later and still no photos. It's been busy on the farm and off. We had four calves born last weekend for a total of 14 and expect some more maybe this weekend. In the meantime Anne spent a long weekend in San Francisco taking in the sites and the Organization of American Historians conference. PROMISE! Pictures coming soon.
Our first calf of the season was born this morning. At least we think it was this morning. She was up and nursing and mother and baby were doing fine when Karel found them at 8 o'clock this morning. She weighed 77 pounds and is sired by our young bull "Adventure Seneca Chief." We will try to have pictures on the weekend. Oh! Her name is Ember.
